David, benefiting from the daily lunch.
In 2006, we met Lydiah and Ezekiel Tito, who had created a lunchtime feeding program for a group of orphans in Rusinga Island. Rusinga – located on the shores of Lake Victoria, in western Kenya – has been devastated by HIV/AIDS and malaria, leaving behind a staggering number of orphans to be raised by friends and family members. One in three people is HIV positive, stripping the community of parents, caregivers, teachers, and creating a cycle of poverty and disease.
Amidst the adversity, the sense of hope seemed to radiate from everyone. The dancing, singing and bright smiles continue to inspire us daily.
Change must come from within. It is our intention to work closely with the community to help fund sustainable projects that will have the most far-reaching impacts.
